Wow! This design has dropped in our online shop and has been the absolute favourite since then. Never has a design sold out so fast! Even though designer Irina had already guessed that this design was going to be an absolute WOW one, so we ordered some more - but we couldn’t have seen this coming! Thank you <3
So here is the background of the Cosmos design: what’s the thought behind it? And when are more coming into the store??
The inspiration comes from the lyrics of Sun Ra’s song ‘Door of the Cosmos’, you can listen to it here and see for yourself how it relates to Irina’s drawings. We love the song! It has some classy jazz, a dreamy melody and these cool parts that make the song quite intriguing. Especially the line 'More than life, interested me so that I dared to knock, at the door of the cosmos.' has been the inspiration of our whirly print.
The universe, galaxy, astrology, stars and the unknown is something that designer Irina is interested in every single day of the year - so it isn’t something that just came up for this collection. The unknown is something we are always curious about as human beings, to a part also because we can imagine anything we want into this unknown space - which is a great place where creativity can be born.
Nevertheless the research also went into what actually exists in the universe. Whilst the human hands and golden rectangular outlines (shown in the print) are surely not part of this factual research, the swirling shapes of Nebula, dancing starts, flying crystals and super nova explosions are! It is impossible to visualise what’s happening in our universe in just one second but we have tried our best to show our perception of it - or maybe, how we want it to be.
And yes, there is a lot of universe prints out there. I hope our ‘Door of the Cosmos’ shows how much thought, creative design and talent for drawing went into it- we really tried to make it something! No artificial or natural creativity enhancers have been consumed in order to make this print, Irina is just about fine without those ;)
So, when is the print available again?
It was supposed to be here already in April but the Covid-19 is making it difficult for us to get our production done. We are producing in Turkey with an amazing bamboo-cotton-elastan fabric (before it was recycled polyester) which we found to be a little softer and after all, all ecological. As in Turkey the lock downs are pretty random it is hard for our producer to make the production happen but we are expecting the print back in store around end of June / beginning of July.
We have a waiting list you can sign up to via email@example.com. We are only producing leggings and crop tops for now (no bodysuits, shorts are coming in in autumn).
Thanks for reading this post and stay tuned for the upcoming design presentations!
