Wow! This design has dropped in our online shop and has been the absolute favourite since then. So here is the background of the Cosmos design: what is our thought behind it?
The inspiration comes from the lyrics of Sun Ra’s song ‘Door of the Cosmos’, you can listen to it here and see for yourself how it relates to Irina’s drawings. We love the song! It has some classy jazz, a dreamy melody and these cool parts that make the song quite intriguing.
Especially the line 'More than life, interested me so that I dared to knock, at the door of the cosmos.' has been the inspiration of our whirly print.
The universe, galaxy, astrology, stars and the unknown is something that designer Irina is very interested in - so it isn’t something that just came up for this collection. The unknown is something we are always curious about as human beings and we can imagine anything we want in this unknown space - which is a great place for creativity.
Nevertheless the research also went into what actually exists in the universe. The human hands and golden rectangular outlines are just made up by our imagination but the swirling shapes of Nebula, dancing starts, flying crystals and super nova explosions are really happening out there.
It is impossible to visualise what’s happening in our universe in just one second but we have tried our best to show our perception of it - or maybe, how we want it to be.
We are producing in Spain with an amazing recycled polyester and elastane fabric and as you can see, it makes handstands just a little bit easier ;)
