How Do You Support Social Cause? How Do You Connect It To Your Artistic Process?

Pitaya Yoga creates colourful artsy yoga pants that tell a little story. And some of the designs are donating a part from their income to non-profits that are working in the area of the topic of the design.
With this short blog post we want to explain a little more why Pitaya Yoga is not only a young Berlin yoga label but also a social project... and how we put our ideas into practice.
Our artistic journey already mixes with a social thought. Artistic because everything is hand-sketched by our designer Irina, and social because we reflect certain social topics in our designs. Topics like the gender equality movement, the refugee crisis, the environment, war and peace, famine, climate change....
Translating these topics into a print design and piece of art on your yoga pants is not always an easy adventure. Most of the topics are socio-political and by their nature more on the critical and negative side. So it makes sense that our artistic journey is a non-direct connection to the topic we chose to reflect about.
As an example, when working on our 'Sea Love' design we illustrated the Mediterranean Sea with clear dark blue colours and colourful sea life, including sea horses, shells and plants. If we had connected directly to our social topic of this print, the refugee crisis, we would have had to illustrate something closer to the television pictures shown on refugee dramas across the Mediterranean.
We have many more ideas to come for our designs based on social topics and if you are inspired, let us know.
